Newton, Laura Name: Laura Newton Laura was the youngest child of Albert and Francessca Newton. She was a flighty girl, prone to day dreaming, spending much of her time in the glasshouses with Old Catherington, the head gardener, learning how to grow courgettes. Aged 19 she started an affair with a gentleman from the United States of America. The 14th Earl was enraged that she had chosen someone who was not a part of the British Establishment put a stop to the relationship. The family woke up two weeks later to find the courgette crop smashed to pieces and Laura’s clothes missing. Several weeks later the family received a postcard with a nice picture of Central Park on it. It explained that Laura had gone to New York to be re-united with her lost love. The family had no further communication with her. They never could get the courgettes to grow well after her sudden departure. |
