Monster, Swamp The swamp monster is a mythical creature which is believed to be resident in the village pond. The legend of the monster can be traced back to the very first villagers, with ancient drawings and manuscripts describing the pond as being “possessed by dragons”. For centuries locals would not visit the pond to feed the ducks alone, for fear of being taken by the monster into the murky depths. In 1837 the local vicar, one Reverend Clarence Bickers conducted an exorcism next to the pond and declared it safe. Unfortunately, the villagers’ new found sense of safety was short-lived when the following Tuesday the vicar’s dog collar was found on the banks of the pond and the vicar was never seen again. Some say that he was taken by the monster, others think he faked is own death to escape mounting gambling debts. The monster has never been photographed, although some fuzzy images do exist. The monster has been explained away as an elaborate hoax by the village ducks to ensure a lifetime supply of bread. |
