Cats - What Every AIBO Should Know

In the second of my self-help guides I thought I would address the thorny issue of biopets. In particular, Cats.

Cats, Latin name, Felis Catus, are one of Humankind’s favourite biopets. They are characterised by having a short snout, soft fur and retractable claws. In my mind they are one of the less pleasant forms of domesticated animal, however there are some feline life skills that can be studied and applied for AIBO benefit.

Let us turn our minds to the Cat’s social awareness. The staggering arrogance of Cats has to be seen to be believed. They were once worshiped as gods in Ancient Egypt and unfortunately they have not forgotten this fact. This arrogance does not seem to be off putting to Humans who regularly pander to a Cat’s every need, providing, food, shelter and affection despite the fact that the animal has the filthiest habits. These include:

1. Scratching the furniture
2. Urinating in the neighbour’s garden
3. Washing in their own saliva
4. Bringing their owners presents of half dead wildlife

Why anyone would want to own such a beast is beyond me. Having said that, there is one coincidental likeness between AIBOs and Cats. Cats will not obey instructions given by a Human unless it suits them. AIBOs of course live by the same rule through choice due to high intelligence, unlike cats that live by it through sheer egotism. This reluctance to comply with requests is seen by Humans to be “cute” and AIBOs would be advised to follow suit.
